Cannabis strains come in three main varieties - Sativa, Indica, or a Hybrid of the two. Strains have varying percentages of THC, which correlates to how strong the high will be as well as how fast it will hit.

Sativa strains are known for their energizing and productivity-boosting effects. They’re great for daytime use, such as when you’re enjoying the outdoors or being creative.

Indica strains will leave you relaxed and calm. The stronger varieties will numb your body and may help you sleep.

Hybrid strains bring the best of both worlds to your bud! A great Hybrid will be uplifting, mellow, creative, and calm. Ultimately, it boils down to personal preference. Hybrids can be Sativa or Indica dominant and have the effects to match.

Marijuana Consumption Tips

There are many ways to use and enjoy cannabis. Pretty much everyone is familiar with smoking, but there’s so much more to explore. No matter what method you choose, start off slowly to see how it affects you. First-time users may not feel very high, which is normal. Just try again another day. Read on to learn more about your options.

Even if smoking is the most common, there are so many different ways to start your smoking adventure. You can try pre-rolls. These are joints that come ready to smoke with no assembly required. Or you can check out different papers, blunts, bowls, bongs, and bubblers. Try out Silver Surfer from Honey Creek, an energizing sativa strain. Or for relaxation, check out Granddaddy Purple from Phat Panda.

Vaping is a discrete and easy way to consume marijuana that has minimal setup. Purchase a vaporizer cartridge loaded with THC oil and a battery attachment. Now you can enjoy mary jane anytime! Vape strains come and go in small batches. Check with one of our budtenders or peruse the Bellevue or Kirkland menus to find a strain that’s right for you .

A dab usually refers to a dose of concentrate that is heated on a hot surface and then inhaled through a glass rig or electronic dab pen. Make sure there is water on hand, and somewhere you can lay down if you get the spins. Dabs hit hard, so you should start with one and see how you feel. Just like with flower, we recommend starting with the lower percentage concentrates and working your way up. Check with your budtender for dabs from Millennium Extracts or Solstice for a nice first experience.

Edibles infused with marijuana are slow acting products, which means that it can take up to two hours to feel its effects. Edibles can take the form of liquids (hello, Loaded Sodas!), baked goods (check out Zoots Brownie Bites) or tinctures (Fairwinds Deep Sleep Tincture is a great one to try). Start slowly with a single 5mg serving of edible to see how it affects you. You can always take another serving at a later time if you don't feel the effects. However, consider things like when you’ve last eaten, etc. before upping your dosage too much.

Topicals are non-psychoactive balms, salves, and oils that users apply directly to the body instead of consuming. They can act as a muscle relaxant and as an antiseptic ointment, so they’re great for aches and pains and massages. Next time you’re in our Bellevue or Kirkland pot shops, check out Flow Gel by Fairwinds or Body Buzz from Ethos for full-body relaxation.

When it comes to cannabis consumption, there’s something for everyone. Just remember, if you’re new to marijuana take it slow, and when in doubt, ask an expert. Our friendly budtenders are always excited to answer any of your burning questions.

Grind the Weed
Place a small amount of marijuana in the grinder and twist it a couple of times. Make sure you don't grind it too fine, or it will fall through the hole in your bowl.

Anatomy of a Bowl
A traditional pipe has three holes. These include the mouthpiece, the bowl, and a small hole on the side of the bowl called the carb. Hold the pipe so you can easily place a finger or thumb over the carb during inhalation.

Pack Your Bowl
Place a small nug slightly larger than the hole in the bowl. Top with ground marijuana and press down lightly to "pack” it. Ensure you don’t overpack your bowl, as the marijuana can expand slightly as it burns.

Smoke Your Bowl
Hold the pipe so you can easily place a finger or thumb over the carb. Briefly, hold the lighter flame to a small section of the packed bowl to light it while slowly inhaling. Once the pipe is full of smoke, you should remove your finger from the carb and inhale to clear the smoke fully.

You may cough in response and this is normal. Keep a glass of water nearby, take some deep breaths, and wait until you stop coughing before you take another "hit" of marijuana. You've now successfully smoked a bowl!

Evenly Smoke a Pre-Roll

To help it burn evenly, gently roll the joint between your fingers to loosen the tightly packed marijuana in the pre-roll.

Take a lighter and evenly apply the flame to the tip while slowly rotating the pre-roll with you fingers. Your goal is to create an even red cherry at the end of the pre-roll.

Once the cherry is evenly lit, you can smoke the pre-roll. Start with a few puffs and see how you feel. If you don't finish the pre-roll, you can tamp out the cherry and store it in your pre-roll tube for future use.

While you can light the pre-roll and inhale at the same time, it reduces the chances of an even burn.

When you're done, make sure to thoroughly extinguish the end of the pre-roll before throwing it in the trash.

Enjoy an Edible

Some edibles contain multiple servings and direct you to consume only a portion. They can take up to 2 hours to feel and can deliver a long lasting high. Start slowly with 5mg to see how it affects you before you eat more. They can really sneak up on you.
